Parents,
We have been busy, busy in Pre-K! Our friends have been working on writing their names, sorting objects with the same attributes, identifying shapes, making artwork using a variety of new materials, and exploring objects found in nature.
Today we are starting a unit called "Rhyme Time". During this unit, we will be reading familiar nursery rhymes to teach rhyming words. This week, we are focusing on "Hey Diddle Diddle" and "Humpty Dumpty".
Here are some great extension activities:
- At home, you can practice reciting these nursery rhymes and picking out the rhyming words. You can also identify other rhyming pairs.
- For the poems:
- If the poems mention a body part, touch it, shake it, wiggle it!
- If there is an action mentioned, mimic it!
- Listen to "Down by the Bay" and identify the rhyming words: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yt1czlnCUCg
- Act out the nursery rhymes
Vocabulary:
dish fiddle "such sport" (such fun)
Here are some other great skills you can be working on at home:
- Packing and unpacking backpacks independently
- Opening food independently
- Folding blankets
- Writing your child's name using upper and lowercase letters
- Identifying the main character ("star" of the story), setting ("Where in the world did this story happen?"), the problem, and the solution to the problem
